About Кавказ.Реалии

Breaking news from the Caucasus and South of Russia

Download the free Kavkaz.Realii mobile app. This is an irreplaceable source of information about the Caucasus and the South of the Russian Federation in Russian for your smartphone and tablet.

Kavkaz.Realii talks about what you do not learn from state sources of information in Russia. We provide timely balanced news and analytical materials, unique interviews with experts and newsmakers.

Caucasus.Realii is a media project of the North Caucasus Service of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, opened in August 2016.

The North Caucasus is the most diverse and, perhaps, one of the most “difficult” regions of Russia. Representatives of almost a hundred nationalities live here: each with its own history, language, culture. The norms of Islamic law and Russian legislation are closely intertwined with Caucasian customs and traditions.

Discussions about questions of history and religion, about uneasy interethnic relations, about the Soviet past and the Russian present in the Caucasus always have a special subtext, but they never tolerate a superficial, lightweight approach.

The North Caucasus is almost 15 million people living in eight republics and two regions of the Russian Federation. Goal Kavkaz.Realii – honestly and impartially, taking into account different points of view, to tell about the situation in Grozny and Stavropol, Makhachkala and Krasnodar, Nalchik and Vladikavkaz, Elista and Magas, Cherkessk and Maikop, in big cities and small villages.

The focus of our attention is on such important topics as human rights issues and the formation of civil society, the independence of the media and the experience of interethnic cooperation. We want and try to tell about the life of ordinary people, about how they evaluate the past, what prejudices they fight in the present, how they see the future.
